After teaching hundreds of students in four short hours, I am over joyed to launch a deep dive into metal smithing. This full day, week long class is designed to build the foundational knowledge of metalsmithing and leave you with the confidence to create at home. In a small group of six we will cover everything from sourcing materials and setting up your own studio to soldering, filing and finishing pieces to sales worthy levels. You will receive not only the mechanics of silver smithing, but technical advice on running a successful silversmithing business if you so choose!

Each student will have their own station with a personal tools and use of butane torches. However, the studio is equipped with oxy-accetylene torches and flex shafts to share. A kit of Sterling Silver bezel, wire, sheet and solder is included in your class fee. Any extras are yours and you can take them home. Should you need more, I will have extras available for purchase at current Rio Grande prices. Stones for various projects are included in the class fee.

We will cover projects in a demonstration style where you are allowed to create your own pieces with the processes I showcase. You'll have plenty of time to practice the techniques and receive individual support throughout each day. I will encourage you to try and to fail so that you really LEARN. This week will be much more focused on the practices and procedures of metal smithing than finishing specific pieces. However, you will have ample time to round out a few quality rings, earrings, necklaces or cuffs.

Additional good things -You will receive access to my online metal smithing video to revisit the basics and supplemental written instructions. Each student will also receive two - one hour follow up virtual meetings where we can troubleshoot any missing concepts after you've tried at home!

I promise it to be fun, challenging, frustrating at times, yet an incredibly rewarding experience where you walk away brimming with inspiration and the toolset to create on your own.

Class will run 9 am - 5 pm with a one hour lunch break. Please come with your lunch or be prepared to run out to grab something from one of our killer restaurants. My favorites include Two Sisters Bakery, Swell Taco, Alibi, The bagel shop and Finn's Pizza.

Location - The class will be held at my studio in Homer, Alaska. Located in town at 3939 Lake St.

Out of Towners - Flights, Car Rentals and accommodations.

Anchorage is the nearest large airport,  4-5 hour BEAUTIFUL drive away. We have a regional airport in town which is serviced by Ravn and Aleutian Airlines. Homer car rentals are limited and we do not have reliable uber or lyft. Great taxi's though!

Accommodations- Please reach out if you are interested in sharing housing with other students. I will help connect those looking to group together.

West Wind Cabins are AMAZING. Brian and Soyna run a top not business with beautiful stays. They offer discounts for people coming to stay for these classes! Dog friendly, sauna and hot tub on

Airbnb - Within walking distance from the studio -

The spit, Karen Hornaday, and Halibut campgrounds are all good options should you want to camp while you are here. My studio has a shower I am happy to share with this group.
